The Charming Town of Genoa

Genoa is strategically located 60 miles west of Chicago in the rich farmland of northeastern DeKalb County. With easy access to I-90, I-88 and I-39, Genoa's location is perfect for families and businesses looking for a quiet rural community with convenient transportation to metropolitan areas.  You will be close to all of the activities and conveniences of the "city" but far enough removed to enjoy the small town "good life."

Population - 4061 (2000 Census)

Education

Genoa-Kingston Unit School District #424 was established in 1947 by the consolidation of schools in Genoa and Kingston. Two grade schools are in Genoa and a third is in Kingston. The middle school and the high school are in Genoa. Graduating classes average approximately 95 students, with approximately 50% continuing with college courses upon graduation. The brand new Genoa-Kingston High School provides organizations, clubs and athletics to meet nearly every student's needs. Both Genoa's grade school and middle school have undergone major renovation/expansion in the past 10 years as well.

Forest Preserve

Adjacent to Riverbend Subdivision is Russell Preserve. Russell Preserve is DeKalb County's largest and perhaps most popular forest preserve. It has year 'round activities including hiking, fishing, tent camping, canoeing, shelters for picnics, x-country skiing and sledding. Deep inside Russell Forest Preserve is the Natural Resource Education Center. This is the only nature center in DeKalb County and is situated on the scenic Kishwaukee River. To demonstrate the concepts in a natural environment, the Center operates a 3,000 square foot facility. It is equipped with a large classroom, a workshop, a laboratory and observation windows looking over bird and mammal feeding areas. The DeKalb County Forest Preserve District and the Natural Resource Education consortium operate programs for area children and adults throughout the year.
